π° Objectives & Limits
In the investment world, a common industry benchmark is a 20% annual return with a 10% maximum drawdown. That means aiming to grow the account by 20% in a year while limiting losses to no more than 10%. For example, if an investor starts with $10,000, they might expect to end the year with $12,000, orβat worstβsee the account drop to $9,000 at some point during the year.
This 20/10 ratio is a sweet spot that many top-performing hedge funds strive forβoffering a strong balance between risk and reward. You can see real-world examples of firms that operate within this range on sites like LevelFields, which breaks down long-term performance of leading funds.

𧱠Base Portfolio
This is my oldest profitable portfolio and serves as a case study in the long-term viability of trading systems. It highlights both the strengths and weaknesses encountered in real market conditions, showing how discipline and consistent risk management can lead to sustained profitability over time.
This portfolio was originally designed with the sole objective of not exceeding a drawdown of 10%. As of this writing (May 29, 2025), with two months remaining until it completes its first year, the portfolio has achieved a total return of 9% with a peak drawdown of just 3.9%. Although it has not yet reached a 10% annual return, it maintains a favorable 2:1 return-to-risk ratio. This performance encourages me to raise the target annual return to 20%.
